PROBLEM

The Muengstener Brücke – Germany’s highest railway bridge – runs across the river Wupper inbetween the cities of Solingen and Wuppertal. A landscape park has been developed during the regional aid program Regionale 2006. There is a hiking trail leading from the bridge to the castle Schloss Burg.

OBJECTIVE

The aim is to make the landscape park and main hiking trail accessible for the blind, visually handicapped and challenged persons as well as visitors in general.
 

METHOD

Concept, design and implementation of a barrier-free wayfinding system. The core element is a cast iron model with tactile symbols and braille texts that has been developed in close cooperation with blind persons. Many different production methods from lowtech to hightech have been used in the fabrication process.
